Why It's Wild

Tucked beneath the rainforest canopy at the edge of Lake Tanganyika, the A Frame Bandas offer a soulful blend of adventure and barefoot luxury. Each open fronted banda invites the outside in with soaring thatched ceilings, hand crafted timber design, and a king bed positioned for uninterrupted views of the lake and distant mountains.

With a private deck for sunrise coffee, an ensuite bathroom, and thoughtful touches inspired by the forest, these bandas create an atmosphere of calm connection. It is an intimate retreat for two, ideal for travelers seeking deep immersion in Mahale’s wild beauty while enjoying comfort, warmth, and complete serenity after a day spent trekking with chimpanzees or exploring the shoreline.

NEAREST AIRPORT
Nearest airports: Kigoma Airport (TKQ) and Arusha Airport (ARK), or other small airstrips depending on your itinerary.
Greystoke Mahale is remote. Most travelers fly into Arusha for international connections, then take a charter to a smaller airstrip near Lake Tanganyika, or fly via Kigoma. From the airstrip, a scenic 90-minute dhow ride on the lake brings you to the lodge.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Visit between June and September for the best experience.
From June to September, the weather is drier, chimps are easier to spot as they often stay lower in the mountains, trails are easier to navigate, and the lake is calmer and clearer for kayaking and swimming. Travel is smoother with fewer heavy rains. In contrast, mid-March to early June marks the wet season and lodge maintenance closure.
